Instructions to get a YubiKey registered for your CAC

Here are the overall instructions to get a YubiKey registered for your CAC, feel free to share. DO NOT follow any online instructions, they are all wrong, you have to call in to get this done. If you have the YubiKey on hand, this process takes about 20-30 minutes total. This YubiKey should NOT be used with non-DoD services

Get a FIPS-compliant YubiKey. Any of these multiple form factors will work: https://www.yubico.com/product/yubikey-5-fips-series/yubikey-5-nfc-fips/

Use CAC Card to request access Army Virtual Desktop (AVD). This take 5 minutes or less. Go here, click hamburger menu on top left and select “onboarding request”: https://armyeitaas.sharepoint-mil.us/teams/army365-avd-onboarding/SitePages/AVD-Setup-Instructions.aspx

Wait for the AKO email, follow instructions to set up AVD. Take 10 minutes or so.

Log into AVD with your CAC. Takes 5 minutes. Have your Yubikey ready.

Call the Army Enterprise Service Desk at 866-335-2769, select “mobility” for your need. They will walk you through what to do. Takes 10-15 minutes.
