Sock Puppet Accounts/Creation

Boilerplate Disclaimer

; I have worked with a few organizations that have used sock puppets for research. However, my ideas are presented here developed through trial and error and conversations with colleagues speculating on what may or may not work. I have no special knowledge of how Social Media/Networking sites operate and do not speak for how any organizations I’ve worked with previously operate. : Josh the Elder

Discussion Components

Principle: The “why” behind what we do or do not do. This is often vague and based on nothing more than a working theory. As such, it is often subject to change/updates.

Actions: The “what” to do. This is typically more descriptive than prescriptive since specific actions are often dictated based on your information requirements and/or threat model.

Resources: The “how” to get it done. This is typically a useful (but never exhaustive) list of tools, guides, or other resources. This is the most perishable section, as all of these things change regularly.
